PROYECTO PROGRESANDO JUNTOS / PROJECT PROGRESSING TOGETHER (PPJ/PPT)

Proyecto Progresando Juntos / Project Progressing Together (PPJ/PPT) is an out-patient program that offers men and women over the age of 18 a variety of integrated behavioral health services and case management coupled with HIV and hepatitis prevention and treatment. PPJ/PPT aims to provide treatment for those with mental health, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring disorders at risk for, or living with, HIV or hepatitis. Special populations of interest for this program include Hispanics/Latinos, the LGBTQ community, and those who have been previously incarcerated. PPJ/PPT is expanding behavioral health services for 240 participants residing in and around the Los Angeles area. PPJ/PPT addresses needs based on age, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, disability, literacy, and gender among participants. PPJ/PPT is made possible through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).

PPJ/PPT is a 24-week program that consists of two phases. Phase 1 includes 12 weekly sessions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Seeking Safety group sessions.

Phase 1 also includes:

  • Screening and treatment for HIV, and hepatitis B and C
  • Hepatitis A and B vaccination
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (if needed)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a treatment model to address mental health and substance abuse issues. Seeking Safety group sessions address issues related to trauma. Case management includes short- and long-term goal development and crisis management. Case management also focuses on linkage to auxiliary support services, including: seeking permanent housing, job skills and job placement, GED completion, ESL support, and LGBTQ support services.

Phase 2 includes:

12 weekly sessions of Assertive Continuing Care Protocol/Community Reinforcement Approach (ACC/CRA). ACC/CRA is a behaviorally-based intervention that seeks to increase the positive, pro-social day-to-day activities of alcohol and drug abusing adults.

For participating in PPJ/PPT, all participants enrolled will receive a total of $30 in gift cards for completing their interview packets at initial intake ($10) and exit at 6 months ($20).
